The Washington Post just put out an excellent article on what it will take to rebuild the refugee resettlement program.
Read it here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/biden-refugee-executive-order/2021/02/04/52a31840-6726-11eb-8468-21bc48f07fe5_story.html
While Biden can and promises to quickly change the “Presidential Cap” (the number of refugees the U.S. will accept in a year), it will take months to fully rebuild the program at the State department, at refugee processing facilities overseas, and at many local refugee resettlement agencies.
Fortunately, Jewish Social Services (Madison’s lone refugee resettlement agency) has kept its staff and program intact over the threadbare months of the previous administration.
Together with Open Doors they, remain ready and eager to accept and support refugees coming to Madison when that pipeline begins to flow again.
