Open Door’s 50th Home

We’re 50!!!

living room

Yesterday Open Doors for Refugees, with the help of several folks from Jewish Social Services, set up our 50th apartment for an arriving family. Well, this one’s a house actually (a very rare occurrence for us), and it’s for a family of eight – two parents and their six children. Perhaps it’s not the most aesthetic space we’ve set up (we had to fit a lot into it), but this family will arrive to a new home stocked with (their own) furniture and accessories and a hot meal cooked by someone from their country of origin.

From the traumas of your past, welcome to your new home.

Take this in for a moment. We’re an all-volunteer organization supported entirely by community donations of time, money, furniture and household items, and we, with your support, have set up 50 apartments. In addition, we also provide transportation, interpretation, ESL, monthly home supplies, and some financial support for learning. We’ve also hosted numerous events for refugees, our volunteers and the public. Finally, we distributed $30,000 in direct support to families during the pandemic.

We’ve accomplished a lot, and we want to take this milestone occasion to recognize and thank the great many folks who’ve contributed a significant amount of your time and resources to Open Doors.
You make it happen, and there is no we without you. Thank you!
