Connecting at the Immigrant Affairs Luncheon

Last week, Leadership Council representatives Madeline, Margaret, and Sallie attended the Dane County Office of Immigration Affairs luncheon celebrating the awesome work this unique county office has done this past year. Immigrant allies working in government, social services, education, and law gathered to connect and reflect on challenges and accomplishments in immigrant advocacy in Dane County.

The Immigration Affairs Office is headed by the intrepid Fabiola Hamden, pictured second from right. This past year, the office served 544 households, including 775 adults and 572 children. 70% of households served were asylum-seeking or undocumented with backgrounds from over 20 countries.

The Dane County Office of Immigration Affairs fills an important need in our community for immigration services to ensure that our neighbors can live full and dignified lives right here in the Madison Area. The office connects a network of organizations such as Open Doors for Refugees who welcome newcomers into our community and help them make a home.
