Last week, for the first time in six months and with the help of volunteers from Jewish Social Services, we set up an apartment (our 41st) for a family of new arrivals. The family is from Afghanistan and consists of two parents with four sons.

While there are plenty of two-bedroom apartments in Madison, it’s really difficult to find an affordable three-bedroom apartment. If you know of any possibilities, or are interested in helping us cultivate those possibilities, please drop a line to OpenDoorsForRefugees@gmail.com.
Providing for this family of six has drawn down our stock of dressers, tables (dining, end, nightstands, coffee and TV), kitchen and living room chairs, table lamps and especially floor lamps. If you have any of those items in good condition that you’d like to donate, please contact OpenDoorsDonations@gmail.com. A picture is really helpful too.
This is a good time to acknowledge Future Foam, who generously donates all our mattresses and bedframes (other than bunk beds), so no, we don’t need those.
Lastly, we could use a few more volunteers to help set up new apartments. If you’re interested, please write to OpenDoorsVolunteers@gmail.com.
